There are many more little things you can do to winterize your home but the most important tasks is to install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. They are required in every room. Make sure top buy extra smoke detector batteries and change them often. Install a carbon monoxide detector near your furnace or water heater, or both. Make sure you test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are working properly. Also buy a fire extinguisher or replace an extinguisher that is older than 10 years.
